Hi again Tony,
Jim Smith has kindly looked through his photos of will films, and found the one for William Corkill 1820 which he will put up on his website. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Robert's possible father William. He seems to have only daughters - his exec was his son-in-law - so no Robert mentioned.
Jim doesn't have the other will which I still think would be good to view:
CORKILL, William, 1829, Maughold, E, 2, 0106429
I had a look at your suggestion of alternative parents for Robert Corkill.
The couple you suggested as his parents were Robert Corkill marriage: 26 March 1807 Lezayre, spouse: Judith Colquitt/Colquet/Colquitte. I found four children for them: Robert 1807, Esther 1809, Ann 1811, John 1816, all bapt in Ramsey.
What we know about your Robert is that he was born in 1806/07 (1851 census and burial), was married and buried in Maughold, and married Cath Kermeen of Maughold. They lived in Port y Vullin Maughold with their 8? children, and he was an iron ore miner. In the 1851 census he said he was born in Maughold.
It wouldn't be unusual for someone to marry a person from another parish, and quite a lot of people moved from country Maughold to the town of Ramsey, leaving farm labouring and mining to work on fishing boats or other vessels, or starting up businesses in the town. But I'm less convinced that a Ramsey person would move out of town to become an iron ore miner living in Maughold. And wouldn't he give Ramsey as his place of birth in the census?
But of course it is always a possibility, just as the parents of Roberts in other parishes are also possibilities.
We already have too many Williams - please see my answer to Averil, above - which is why I am keen for you to look at that Maughold 1829 will, in case it is a short-cut!
