Hi Larry, thanks for your reply. The Dora that you mention was one of fifteen children to Thomas and Jane. Her brother Anthony, was killed in the 1910 Wellington pit disaster, Whitehaven. He left a wife and five children aged, 8, 7, 6, 4 and 2. His brother Joseph, my grandfather, named one of his sons Anthony, who was killed in the war in 1940. The name Anthony was passed on to me. At the last check, I am still living!
I'm not sure when the family moved from the Isle of Man but it must have been around the mid 1800s. A lot of them were miners and I believe that work on the mainland was plentiful and well paid. Our family seemed to start off around the Whitehaven area then spread from there. My own lot made their way across to the Newcastle area around 1900. Apologies if you already know all this!
