Thanks for the cert details. It is a pity that Thomas wasn't more consistent with his ages, as later on he was recorded as younger than (we think) he actually was.

He has only added about a year to his age at his marriage if born late Nov./early Dec.1840 (1841 census). In the IOM both parties would have needed parent or guardian permission to marry, being under age (under 21). In England I think it was 18.

Could you read the names of the witnesses at the bottom ("In the presence of us" ....)?

There were a couple of Thomas Cork(h)ill bapts in 1839, including another one in Maughold: 28 July 1839, father:Thomas Corkill, mother:Margt Kelly.
Also: 26 May 1839 Kk German, father:Philip Corkill, mother:Ann Kelly. And bapt 19 April 1840 Kk German, father:William Corkill mother:Mary Crow.

If we have the right Thomas bapt date it looks as though both he and Jane added at least a year to their ages at marriage. The April 1861 census has Thomas aged 21 when he would still have been 20 if aged 6 months in June 1841 (and 19 at marriage), and Jane is aged 19 in 1861, eighteen months after she was 18 at their marriage.
It looks as though they were making sure they were not seen as being under age.

Their daughter Elizabeth (8 months old in 1861) also had just Cleator, Cumberland, as her place of birth.

In April 1871 they became even younger with Thos 29 and Jane 26 which would make her only 14/15 at marriage.
In April 1881 Thomas was 40 and Jane 39, and in April 1891 younger again with Thomas 48 and Jane 47.
She was 52 at death in mid-1896 which makes her aged 15 at their marriage, unless she turned 16 between the Sept quarter and October.
