Hi Sue,
Many thanks once again. You have given me so much information, I hardly know where to start my reply!
Firstly, you are, without doubt, on the right track. It may be easier if I go back from what I know to be undisputed facts.
The Joseph Corkhill born 1909 was my father. He married my mother, Elizabeth Armstrong b1910 in 1929 and died in 1989.
His father was also called Joseph who was born in Whitehaven around 1884. He was, of course my grandfather. He married Mary Kilpatrick from Wallsend. Mary died in Morpeth Lunatic Asylum in 1928. She was 42. I have her Death Certificate. For the moment, I am uncertain when Joseph died, but I'm sure it was between 1950 and 60.
Joseph's father was of course Thomas, who, as we know was born around 1841. He married Mary Anne McLaughlin of St Bees, Cumberland, although I do not know when. Mary Anne may have been married previously because in the 1901 Census there is a record of two step children, John McLaughlin and Mary Anne McLaughlin.
The parents of Thomas Corkhill must have been Robert Corkhill and Catharine Corkhill (Kermeen).
I look forward to hearing from you.
Tony
