Hi Sue,
As always, many thanks for your sterling effort. Much appreciated. Good news about Carol having the Parish Registers. Hopefully she may throw a bit light on the William/Elinor mystery.
The wills? That's all another story! I've spent just about all night reading the wills. Fascinating stuff, indeed. The ones you highlighted were not 'lit up' on the Lawson's list and so I could not open them. I don't know why only some on the list can be opened and most of the rest can't be.
I read the will of Esther Corkill (Cannell) 1774 of Andreas. She had two sons, John and Thomas of Maughold.
Also, I read at least one submitted by you. This was Daniel Corkil 1762.
Trouble is, once you start reading a will, it is easy to think it is my lot, because its the same names popping up all the time.
Whilst the William/Elinor conundrum is filtering through, is it not possible that Robert was the son of Robert and Judith Colquitte who married Mar 1807.
I know this probably complicates matters even further but I've realised the last few weeks that with the Corkills---nothing is ever simple!
Regards,
Tony
