Hi Tony.
I see I probably wrote nonsense when I put "John Kermeen & Jane Corkill married in Maughold 18 Dec 1824" if referring to their child bapt in 1814! (Ten years would be a long time to have a child pre-marriage.) There are children of John Kermeen/Kirmeen & Margaret Corkill being bapt in Maughold from 1806 to 1822, and those of John Kermeen & Jane Corkill from 1814 to 1838. These Jane Corkill ones look like two families, with a gap in bapts between Catharine in 1814 and the next children from 1825 to 1838 - obviously the children of the marriage in 1824.
I mentioned the Margaret Corkill (mother) bapts, because the Maughold vicar or clerk sometimes confused the mothers' forenames when they had a common surname, and were having babies bapt at the same time. I couldn’t find an earlier marriage in Maughold between John Kermeen & Jane Corkill.
I would still be very interested to know who the witnesses were to the marriage between William Corkill & Elinor Christian 16 Dec.1802?
I looked at Maughold bapts to fill in some of the gaps in my last message for the family of Robert Corkill & Cath Kermeen, and in particular Elizabeth Corkill shown as aged 9 in the 1861 census.
I think she was probably Elizabeth daur of Robert Corkill & Catherine [no surname given] bapt Maughold Parish Church 7 Sep 1851.
Also found Sarah daur of Robert Corkill & Catherine Kermeen bapt Parish Church 30 Jul 1853. Sarah Corkill aged 6 days of Pt y Vullin was buried 1 Aug 1853. Her father Robert had been buried on 4 April 1853.
There were other bapts in 1849, 1851 and 1853 for children of mother Cathe or Catherine with no surname given for her, but there were other Caths married to Robert Corkills having children baptised at that time, including Cath Quayle, Cath Corkill, and Cath Kissage.
