Hi - Was your ancestor one of the children, below, and what led you to think that the Robert Corkill with wife Cath in the 1851 census was his/her father?

There was a thread on this board in 2006 about Dorothy Corkill and family. If you put her name under "Search" you will find them, and also try Robert Corkhill (or Robert Corkill) and Cath (or Catharine) Kermeen.

There was an earlier thread in 2006 "Robert Corkill of Maughold", on which I wrote:
"Maughold par regs show that following the bapt of Robert Illegitimate son of Robert Corkill & Margaret Kermeen on 10 Mar 1833, there is a bapt of Robert son of Robert Corkill & Cath Kermeen on 3 Aug 1834.

I can't see a Robert Corkill b.c.1829 in Maughold records, although there are several bapts with Robert Corkill as father, with various mothers. Including Joseph Illegitimate son of Robert Corkill & Cath Kermeen 13 Jan 1833. Perhaps the parish clerk was getting the Cath & Margt Kermeens confused, or were they both having illegitimate children with Robert Corkill?

Robert Corkill & Catherine Kermeen married Maughold 30 Mar 1833.
Thomas Cowin & Margaret Kermeen married Maughold 25 May 1833.
Robert Gill & Margaret Kermeen married Maughold 16 Jun 1835."

Perhaps someone with access to the 1851 census can identify this Robert aged 9 in 1841 which is closer to the age you are looking for, with his parents."

I replied:
"Thanks Brian, your first census transcript in Port-e-Vullyn looks like the family I thought most likely:
Dorothy Corkill daur of Robert Corkill & Cath Kermeen bapt Maughold 20 Aug 1843.

Robt CORKILL aged 47, Port y Vullin, was buried Maughold 4 Apr 1853.

I think this is probably Robert son of William Corkill & Elinor Christian bapt. 14 Sep 1806. [William Corkill & Elinor Christian married in Maughold 16 Dec 1802.]

Mother Cath Kermeen would be Catharine daur of John Kermeen & Jane Corkill bapt Maughold 19 Jun 1814. [John Kermeen & Jane Corkill married in Maughold 18 Dec 1824.]

In the 1861 Maughold census Catherine was recorded as:
1 102 Port E Vullin Catherine CORKILL Head WID 47 Labourer Maughold
1 102 Port E Vullin Judith CORKILL Daughter UNM 24 Labourer Maughold
1 102 Port E Vullin Elizabeth CORKILL Daughter UNM 9 Scholar Maughold."

You will find a number of threads about this family through "Search", but there were a lot of Robert Corkills bapt around the same time, in several parishes.
