Hi Tony,
Before we can be certain that you are on the right track you need to confirm that your ancestor was definitely one of their children. Was this ancestor their son Thomas? Did later records (marriage?) confirm that his father was Robert Corkill, a miner, and that he was born in the IOM c.1841? What are the records you hold?
These are the baptisms on the Maughold parish register:
Joseph CORKILL Illegitimate son of Robert Corkill & Cath Kermeen bapt. Parish Church 13 Jan 1833.
Robert Corkill & Catherine Kermeen married Maughold 30 Mar 1833.
Bapts:
CORKILL Robert [son of] Robert Corkill/ Cath Kermeen [bapt] Parish Church 3 Aug 1834
CORKILL William Robert Corkill/ Cath Kermeen Parish Church 20 Nov 1836
CORKILL William Henry Robert Corkill/ Cath Kermeen Parish Church 16 Dec 1838
CORKILL Thomas Robert Corkill/ Cath Kermeen Parish Church 1 Jan 1841
CORKILL Dorothy Robert Corkill/ Cath Kermeen Parish Church 20 Aug 1843
CORKILL Judith Ann Robert Corkill/ Cath Kermeen Parish Church 20 Sep 1846.
The 1841 census was held on the night of June 6th/7th when Thomas's age was given as 6 months, making him born c.Dec.1840. So this fits well with his age at baptism.
If it is Thomas's parents you are looking for, please post his later records which refer to the IOM, his parents, and ages given. Details at marriage? Or the same sources if you are looking for a different child.
Sue
