I've been following this thread, plus earlier ones pointed out by Averil, and recording as many of the Maughold Looneys into my database as I can. I'm not finished yet, but am getting a pretty good handle on them now.
I totally agree with LWJ and Sue (and Philip Allen from about 2011 ), that the John Looney d 1835 of Boshin (Gob-ny-Scoute) is the s/o John Looney & Margaret Kelvie, b ca 1748, and married Isabella Camaish 1788. Isabella died Jan 1817. Perhaps John remarried and the burial of Widow Looney 1838 (Yack) age 82 is a second wife. Consider as a possibility: 10 Jan 1829 Maughold marriage of John Looney & Christian Kissack, no IGI children, no "Christian Looney" in census or burial or will. Alternatively, could it be the widow of Daniel Looney who died 1826?
I also agree that the eldest son John b 1770 of Daniel & Isabel (Cashin) must have died early. Looking at Maughold John Looney burials 1770-1826, and eliminating the infants (earliest of those was 1799), there are only 3 left:
1. 25 May 1783
2. 9 Jun 1795
3. 31 May 1810.
The first one (1783) has been assumed to be the s/o Robert Looney & Jane Kneen (discussion elsewhere).
The latter is assumed to be the s/o John Looney & Margaret Hutchin b 1777. This leaves the 1795 burial still unclaimed. A 25yo John dying at this time (no marriage, no will) could fit. However, with no proof other than elimination of all other known Maughold dates, we can't conclude anything.
Sorry Averil, but you must try to give up your long-held belief that the 1770 John s/o Daniel is part of the descent leading to the John who married Rachel Redhead and ultimately went to South Australia. Also, John Looney/Margaret Hutchin have nothing to do with this group.
