Hi Eric,
Many thanks for the Stowell information, none of which I have seen before. Very interesting.
I agree with you that as Margaret's last child was born in 1836 she was more likely to have been aged 40 than 51.
On another message in which you wrote about ages often being wrong, please remember that John Looney was left the bought land in question [Talloo Gob no Scoote] by his father of Crow Creen who died in 1769 [1770 will], and that son John passed this land on to his own son in 1831.
Father John Looney d.1769 had children underage, but Daniel was already married and John of age (so born 1755 or earlier). Which makes him aged at least 80 at his death in 1835.
The Maughold bapts of father John Looney [d.1769] & wife Margaret Kelvie's children were:
LOONEY Jane John Looney/ Margaret Kelvie Parish Church 3 Mar 1754
LOONY Daniel John Loony/ Margaret Parish Church 4 Aug 1745
LOONY Robert John Loony/ Margaret Kelvie Parish Church 3 Jul 1757
LOONY James John Loony/ Margaret Kelvie Parish Church 7 Sep 1760
LOONY Patrick John Loony/ Margaret Kelvie Parish Church 25 Mar 1764
LOONY Ewan John Loony/ Margaret Kelvie Parish Church 3 Aug 1766
There were also possible:
LOONEY Elleonor John Looney/ Parish Church 1 Oct 1727
LOONEY Thomas John Looney/ Parish Church 14 Aug 1748
Children's names mentioned in their father's will were eldest son William, John's elder brother Daniel, John (with the implication that he was the next son after Daniel), daughter Jane (aged under 24), sons Thomas & Robert (implied the next eldest two, but possibly underage - didn't make their marks), James, Patrick & Ewan (the youngest?).
At a later date (torn out), but before 1785, Robt., James, Patr: & Ewan Looney were still underage.
"Dan: Thos. & John Looney three of the Testator’s Children who are of Lawful age, are sworn
supervisors of those under age in form of Law".
John LOONEY 87 (Yack) buried Dec 2 1835.
He was one of the pledges "John Looney of the Parish of KK Maughold" for his brother Daniel Looney of the Crow Creen [will 1825].
