Chris,
I have just posted a general response. However, how do we get in touch to exchange more information. I have skype installed on my computer, so wherever you are we can talk for free. I am in London UK.
I do not see any facility for contact other than
posting here. But some people seem to do it.
I was most surprised to read in your post that there is more than one William married to a Jane Moore.
When researching you have to be so careful, and you can get so frustrated at times that you can so easily accept something without double, and treble checking.
One can find two people with the same name, marrying people of the same name and having children of around the same ages also named the same.
I was recently over in the Island and plan to go again in the near future. I spent a lot of time in the Records office. There is a direct link
of the Gicks to the Curphy family. One of John Curphy's children is called William Gick Curphy (born 1851)
The Gicks farm is still there, as is the Curphy's farm ' Black Hill House, which is near. You can still see the hand water pump which dates back to the 18th century. The countryside around has hardly changed.
