Manx Genealogy

Re: Robert Looney of the American Colonies

I was so hoping the origin of Robert Looney of America in the Isle of Man had been discovered - but it doesn't look like it is settled yet! I am very puzzled by all the Roberts sons of Robert Looney of Malew that are in the records. If I list all the children born of Robert Looney in Malew from 1677 to 1706, here is what I see:
Alice Lowney b. June 15, 1678 (a year after Robert Looney married Alice Quiney)
Elizabeth b. Sept. 4, 1681
Mary/Marie b. Sept. 14, 1684 d. May 5, 1685 of smallpox
Thomas b. April 11, 1686
Robert b. June 19, 1689 d. Aug. 20, 1689 (identified as Robt son of Ro Lowney so he would have been a child or young person)
then another unnamed daughter of Ro. Lowney died Nov. 14, 1689 (Alice or Elizabeth?)
Catherine b. Dec. 14, 1690
Christian b. Aug. 19, 1694
Robert b. March 5, 1699 (in our current calendar)
Robert b. Oct. 6, 1700
Alice Quincy Looney died Feb. 26, 1701 in our current calendar, so she could be the mother of all these children.
There is absolutely no reason to baptize an infant twice and Robert Looney that died in 1706 didn't have two sons named Robert. So who is the second Robert? There is a Robert Lewny that died in Malew June 2, 1717; he is not identified as "son of", so he would appear to be an adult. Who is he? Was there another Robert Looney in Malew at the time?
Getting back to the Robert Looney/Alice Quiney family - when father Robert died in 1706, the children's ages would have been: Thomas - 20, Catherine - 16, Christian - 12, and Robert - 7 or 6 depending on which Robert is the one in this family. Reading between the lines of the various records, it seems that Thomas, Catherine, and Christian all left Malew at some point. Thomas and Catherine appear to have gone to Ireland; the record from 1726 states that Thomas had been out of island for several years, Catherine was in Dublin and told her sister Christian that Thomas had been dead some years. Christian states she hadn't heard from him since 1719. Their brother Robert states that Christian has been away for 23 years (since 1703?) and he couldn't recognize her. Maybe Thomas went to Ireland before his parents died (he is not mentioned in Robert Sr.'s will; Catherine and Christian joined him at some point, but baby Robert stayed in Malew with relatives. That would explain why he didn't recognize his sister.
If this Robert Jr. is the one who married Jane Kneale in Malew in 1725 and died there in 1784, he didn't seem to have any property to leave in his will. Does anyone know what happened to the two houses that his father left him in 1706?

Just another thing I wanted to point out - when Robert Looney of Virginia made his will in 1769 in Augusta Co., VA, three of the witnesses were James Crow, Thomas Crow, and Elinor Crow. Crow is not a common name in the US and I was interested to see it in Isle of Man records and especially as a witness to Alice Quiney Looney's will.
