I found a copy of a book called the "Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy Volume VI". In it is a chapter called the "Hopewell Monthly Meeting". This chapter mentions the Fathers of the Colony (founding members of a new meeting, or church) who migrated from Pennsylvania to Virginia (Frederick County) beginning in 1830. On the list of names given of the Founding Fathers is a Robert Luna. This is one of the spellings I have seen for the Looney last name. In fact, one branch of the family changed the spelling to this some time in the 19th century. Do you think I could be getting closer? I hope I can prove this is Robert Senior. If I can, it will provide another in the chain.
