The problem is that there were no birth records that early except those kept by the different churches. The church records are difficult to locate because there was no central location that the different churches used to store records The Southern Baptist records are currently housed in the history department of Sanford University in Birmingham, Alabama, but the last time I checked there were no records with the last name of Looney using any spelling. I need to check again.
A lot of the records in the US were destroyed during the Revolutionary War and again during the War of 1812 and the Civil War. To compound that, courthouses burned or were destroyed by hurricanes and tornados. The courthouse in the county I was born in was destroyed by fire three times and by tornados twice. The records that survive were some copies in the hands of private individuals and some records that had been stored off-site. I'm still searching but it does get very frustrating sometimes.
