I know this is a three year old post, but I'm currently researching this Robert Looney family "of Ballasalla", Malew Parish and there seems to be a problem with the claim that Robert Looney b. 19 Jun 1689 is the one who went to America. Here is the family as described in a post three years ago:

Yes there was a Robert Looney son of Robert who was baptized in Malew Parish on 19 Jun 1689, but, there was also a Robert Looney son of Robert who was buried in Malew Parish on 20 Aug 1689.

To complicate things even more, there was another Robert Looney son of Robert baptised in Malew Parish 5 Mar 1698 (actually 1699 in image) and another Robert Looney son of Robert baptized 6 Oct 1700. I'm thinking that this was a second son named Robert Looney born to Robert Looney and his wife, Alice Quiney. Alice died 27 Feb 1700 and I'm thinking that the 1699 and 1700 baptism was the same child baptized once when his mother was living and again after her death.

Then there is another record of another Robert Looney who was buried in Malew Parish 2 Jun 1717. I can't tell where this one came from.

The second Robert Looney b. 1698/9 apparently lived to old age since there is also a record of Robert Looney "of Ballasalla", son of Robert, who died 7 Mar 1784 at age 86 (b. 1698/9). This Robert left a will.

There was also a brother to this Robert Looney b. 1698/9 named Thomas Looney who was described as being "of Barbados" who's will from 1726 somewhat lead to this confusion. The summary of his will makes it sound like his father went to Dublin along with one of his sisters and the father had died there some years back. I'm thinking it was more likely that it was Thomas who went to Dublin and at some point Barbados where he died. If you check out his father, Robert Looney b. 1 Jan 1656, married 1. Alice Quiney and 2. Margt Quayle, you will see that he died 16 Dec 1706 and left a will there in Malew Parish. There was no mention of him being in Dublin or dying there in the summary of his will. The will summary for Thomas Looney does go on to say that Thomas' brother Robert had to pay his sister what was owed to her from their parents estate.

So it would seem that all of the Robert Looney from Malew Parish born to Robert Looney and his wife, Alice Quiney, are all accounted for. The records support the conclusion that none of these Robert Looney's went to America. So the search continues.
