Lynn, I've now had a look through the thread.
Jean suggested "that you can trawl through the Malew baptisms looking at every entry from Sept 1823 onwards until you see something which is difficult to decipher which just might be Margaret Jane's entry. December 1827 would be the latest you'd expect to find it, since John Samuel was baptised in Sept 1828".
I have had a look at the LDS Family History Library Catalog, and I would order these three films for the Parish Church of Malew:
Christenings 1804-1848, Marriages 1784-1830 are on FHL Film number 106731.
Marriages 1788-1848, Burials 1788-1849, Index to christening, marriages 1784-1849, are on FHL Film number 106732.
Christening, marriages, burials 1849-1883 are on FHL Film number 106192.
The marriage record which Averil quoted from [IGI] has:
groom's name: John Kennaugh
bride's name: Margaret Jane Bridson
marriage date: 06 Jul 1852
marriage place: Malew,Isle Of Man,England
indexing project (batch) number: M03809-1
system origin: Isle_Of_Man-ODM
source film number: 106732
So this came from the index, not from the full record (not all have been included yet on the new IGI).
The full record should be on film no.0106192
As I wrote previously you need to see their marriage first, then search for the bapt. Family History Centres usually let you order several films at once. You will also be able to check these films for earlier generations.
- Just seen your answer to my first message. Yes, I have found the FHC staff to be very helpful. For their centres look in the phone book under 'Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints'.
I'll be interested to see how you get on. You will enjoy looking at the actual records and following them back through the generations. The copies on film are very good.
