Re: Ann, wife of John Kelly b1823 C't

Sue, Jean, Jo and others - I am so grateful for all this time you are taking to help me sort out John Kelly.
Facts : - Grandad - James Philip Archibald Kelly.
Great grandparents - James Kelly born c 1852 & Eliza Jane nee Costain.
Then comes the uncertainty !
Great great gandparents - John Kelly Md Ann.

At the Manx museum I sat for several hours with the films (the guy said the machine was indestructible to use) - no, I didn't break it , but it was tiring sitting & staring. The exact dates for John Kelly are : - To Ann Mylrea 26 Nov 1844 in Malew. An Ann Kelly died in 1854 buried in Malew.
J.K. married Jane Ritson (born Marown 1827) again in Malew on 27 May 1855. It was the registrar's scan on the film. As Ann was the mother of James (great granddad) I was working on her & John most. The marriage details were just what the registrar had written. John Kelly his X mark, Ann Mylrea. Witnesses Thomas Hudson his X mark and Ann Shimmin her X mark.
As I had earlier messages on the board about this daughter Sophia who only appears as age 9 on the 1851 census I looked up a C'town Sophia from 1842 & it was given as Ann Shimmin & John Kneale as her parents. I did suggest at the museum that Kelly might have been transcribed as Kneale but the woman there seemed doubtful. As you see Ann Shimmin was a witness . Could the registrar have made such a mistake as to mix the two surnames. There were no parents or occupations given on the marriage between John & Ann M.

It is possible. On my & my husband's marriage certificate at Castle Rushen the registrar missed an 'r' out of our surname & had to squeeze it in. Then when we were in the Registries office 2 weeks ago & waiting we looked up our marriage & now Jan was written as Jon which over time could become JOHN ! Jan is a Swedish man's name.
With all your help So much time has been put in that I feel I can't give up . The challenge must continue but ....... Phew!
