This 1861 household links this Shimmin family to the Sophia Kelly who was "9 yr old daughter" in the 1851 household of John Kelly and the mysterious Ann.
The IGI shows that the Sophia who married Joseph Barlow in Malew 20th Dec 1860 was Sophia Kneale. A few weeks ago, in a different thread, I suggested that this IGI entry below was the baptism of the "Sophia Kelly, dau in 1851":

I wonder whether the 1861 18 yr old Sophia Barlow should have been "granddaughter" of Robert Shimmin. I suspect that the Ann Shimmin who, according to the IGI, was Sophia's mother, was Ann Shimmin bap 20 Jan 1822 Malew, parents Robert Shimmin and Mgt Crebbin. And I also suspect that this same Ann Shimmin was the Ann who was the first wife of John Kelly b 1823.
Robert Shimmin b 1796 had 3 children with first ( ? ) wife Mgt Crebbin ( 17 Jun 1821 Malew marriage in IGI says Crellin, but 3 children's baptisms say Crebbin), and then second wife was Ann Kelly ( mar 10 Dec 1837 Malew).
By 1871, Robert Shimmin, Ann nee Kelly and Thomas Shimmin grandson, had moved to Peel.
Elenor Holmes b 1791 was the illegitimate daughter of Ann Holmes. Ann Holmes married Thomas Shimmin in Malew in 1793 and they had about 9 children. One of these children was Robert Shimmin, ropemaker, b 1796.
Ellen Hamilton might have been the "Ellenor Shimmin bap 7 June 1829 Malew, illegit daughter of Elizabeth Shimmin" from the IGI. And Eliz Shimmin might have been the ES b 1807, dau of Thos Shimmin and Ann Holmes. Thus Ellen would have been the niece of both Elenor Holmes and of Robert Shimmin.
My top guess for the parents of John Kelly b 1823 is this baptism (going by the names which John Kelly b 1823 gave to some of his children):
