Hi all,
I just spoke to my Aunt. Unfortunately she doesn't have the original birth certificate as this was burnt along with all adoption papers by her adoptive parents.
What she has is another Certified Copy of an entry of birth, which she applied for in 1967, however she can't remember if she applied for it from GRO in London or the Wirall RO. Here is what it says:
Date of Birth: 16/1/1905
Where: 13 Back sea view, hoylake cum west kirby ud
Name: Marjorie Crowe
Sex: F
Fathers Name: Blank box (no T.Shields crossed out!)
Mothers Name: Eleanor Crowe
Mothers occupation: Domestic Servant
Informant: Eleanor Crowe, 19 Back Sea View, hoylake cum west kirby ud
Registered: 6th Feb 1905
The certificate was a typed out version, whereas the one I applied for from the GRO a couple of years ago was handwritten and looked like old style writing, so I presumed in was done circa 1905. I'm very confused what the difference is, but as Sue suggested I'll apply to the RO and ask for a photocopy of the original and see what that brings up.
You'll also note the different address in back sea view, born at 13 (Minnie's house) but seemed to be living at 19. Perhaps then Minnie was just a neighbour?
I'm quite sure the christening on 16th Feb is going to be the correct Marjorie, given the birth was only registered on the 6th Feb.
Other points my Aunt told me:
What Minnie had to say on Eleanor:
She was around 16 & came from the Isle of Man
The baby had nice clothes
My grandma ie Marjorie Crowe remembers as a child seeing the words Carnforth & Christchurch (not sure if the place or an actual church?) on her adoption certificates, possibly also a Sunshine homes (although she's not sure about that).
She was advertised in the local papers with a large sum of money for her education.
Thank you
Lisa
