I haven't done a great deal of research for the earlier periods yet, as I'm concentrating on collecting all the later (say mid 1700s+) Gellings first. So I have to say "I don't know" to the questions re Margaret and Ann Kneale. It's tempting to put them together for the same John Gelling but so far there's not enough info. Hopefully something will turn up eventually.

Re Isabella Gelling/Cavendish, I remember seeing that 1841 census entry with the 80 year old in the House of Industry. But there's another one for a "Widow Gelling" age 65 Y at "Shaws Brow", Douglas. There's an "Elizth Gelling" 16 Y there too. Turns out that in 1851 at "4 Shaws Brow" Douglas is "Isabella Gelling" Widow 84 born England with Elizabeth Gelling granddaughter 26 Dress Maker born Braddan. As it's the same address, I think this will be the one. Elizabeth matches nicely to a daughter bp 3 Apr 1825 Braddan to Felix McKewin and Sarah Gelling (the d of John Gelling & Isabella Cavendish, bp 1803 - she later married John Shimmin).

Re daughter "Anne" bp 1796, the IGI says the parents are John Gelling and "Margt Cavendish". I think that "Margt" should be "Isabel", either a transcription error or wrong originally. She fits nicely between her siblings too.

Re son William bp 1794, I'm not 99% sure he's the one who md Margaret Quine 1816. It just doesn't feel right. Children's names aren't very good. There's a marriage in 1793 of a William G & Elizabeth Caine who'd be perfect if only there'd be a child of theirs in the IGI, which there isn't. I guess I want more proof.

You have the correct parents for the JG b 1764 Marown (who md Eliz Oates 1787). Children that I have for JG & MQ md 1763 Ballaugh are:
1. John 1764-1854 (md Elizabeth Oates 1787- issue))
2. Philip 1766-1823 (md Anne Kewin 1787 - issue)
3. Margaret 1769-bef 1782
4. William 1772- after 1828 ( not sure which one of many William's he is)
5. Esther 1775-1804 (md Thomas Fayle 1797 - issue)
6. Elizabeth 1778-1796
7. Margaret 1782-after 1828 (md John Pearson 1808)

The above JG died 1829 and left a will that mentions 5 Pearson grandchildren (father in America), dau Margaret, son John, son William. I extracted it some years back but didn't transribe it.
I don't have the children that you marked with an asterisk. They are from a different John Gelling of Ballacaine Braddan, will of 1822. You seem to have combined two John Gellings into one.

Jean and I email to each other regularly. I haven't had anything directly from Joyce though she has made great contributions to wills etc for which we are all grateful.
