Re: John Gelling / Elizabeth Cavendish
No wonder I couldn’t find the Mary mentioned as I was looking under Mary Gelling and as Sylvia has mentioned Mary was illeg. therefore her name being Cavendish. So John would still appear to the first child of JG and EC. I can find no trace of her following her birth in 1788.
Re: Ann Gelling (nee Moore)
There is a will on BL’s DB for 1748 GELLIN, Ann 1748-2 Bra MOORE E w 0106379 (not available).
According to the IGI (I know, treat with great caution) there is an Ann Moore dob “aft. 1688” – Braddan, d. 10 Sept 1748 and married to John Gelling dob “abt 1680” – I found a JG b. June 18 1682 Braddan d. Feb 7 1736 Braddan. On BL’s burials DB. They were married “abt 1715” Braddan.
According to the IGI, this JG (1680) was the son of John Gelling dob “abt 1655” d. 25 Feb 1732 and married Margaret Kneale dob “abt 1655” ”abt . 1680”. There is a will for a Mgt Kneale (Gelling)
GELLIN, Margaret 1735-1 Bra KNEAL E w 0106374
I know there are a lot of “abouts” and are pure conjecture but you have to start, and end somewhere - eventually!
Eric: I still feel that (but I stand to be corrected) JB and EC are ‘our’ correct Gellings but the Gelling saga will continue for sometime yet I suspect.
I have four relevant wills which I intend to obtain and which will hopefully verify any or all of the above - or otherwise - but then that has been my intention for months now, but I will have to obtain the services of a researcher to get them for me.
