Eric:
According to the IGI there is a John Gelling married to Margaret Kneale with a son called also John DOB June 18 1682 Braddan.. I did a search on these in Dec 2007 which I printed out a Pedigree Chart but I now find (have just tried the link printed on the page at the time) that this information is no longer available for some reason. However, on my printout it states that MK is the “1st wife of John Gelling” and gives MK a DOB of abt 1655, Braddan. Is it possible that Ann Kneal was a sister of Mgt? and is the 2nd wife of this John hence the mention of Ann in his will and who subsequently also had a son called John? I am unable to find any mention of a marriage between JG and AK though.
Re: Parentage of John Gelling (Isabella Cavendish)
There is an Isabella Gelling ( I. Cavendish?) in the 1841 census aged 80 years as ‘pauper and inmate’ in the ‘House of Industry’ ‘her’ JG could be one of the two you mentioned as having died in 1837 and 1840.
As for their children, I have the same as you except for Anne. I haven’t married any of them off though as you have. (#4) Like you Eric, the William b 1974 I agree is 99.9% ‘my’ William.
As for the parents of JG Braddan (1764-1829) I think they almost certainly are JG b 1740 and m. Mgt. Quilliam Marown (1740-1822) there is a will for this JG 1829 on BL’s DB which I obtained and them is a JG b 1764.
I have children of JG and MQ as:
John dob Feb 26 1764
Philip dob Oct 12 1766
Margaret dob Nov 1769
Thomas dob ??? *
William dob ??? *
Jane dob ??? *
Ann dob ??? * wife of James Turner
* these names I got from the above mentioned will (1829)
I have parents of the above JG (MQ) as:
John Gelling 1722 – 1812 M Catherine Killey 1712 - 1806
Eric, have you had any information from Joyce Oates on the Gelling’s of Ballamillaghyn? She sent me a wealth of data but too much to put on here. I also received from Jean Corkett a FT of the Gelling family of Marown and Braddan Parishes which is very interesting, but it is in the format of a ‘tree’ so cannot reproduce on here.
