Hi Sue,
Thanks for your data;
So you will know what the sources are (e.g. an unsupported IGI has to be regarded as useful but dicey)
The Sources dealing with my own material on Philip Joughin (1770) and Christian Lace German register in MM.
John Joughin their son – TWO references in register German for a John Joughin
a) Ch 18-7-1803
b) Ch 8-01-1904
I do not know which is correct; thereafter Parish register provides good data on a marriage & burial 23-11-1868. I have a copy of his will which lists the children surviving in 1868 when he died and their married names and husbands, Deceased children not of course listed per will.
Mary Ann Joughin was in the revivalist movement in Peel in 1860s, and her 1862 marriage to Henry William Corrin was 16-05-1862 at Peel Wesleyan church (see Wesleyan Register) Their children all in Wesleyan register, which mostly gives birth date and christening, but in th case of Christiana Frances Corrin (my ancestor) there is an error in the original register itself In says she was baptised 29-March 1863 and born on 11 April 1863 THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. The dates are probably transposed, ie March birth and April baptism, BUT it migh be a March baptism and an earlier March birth, ie 11 Mar 1863, but the preacher wrote April in error as he may have made the register up in the month of April.
The subsequent data for the States comes from storied handed down in the family, and I have not managed to trace Mary Ann’s burial in the USA. From the IGI, I have a marriage for John Powell Corrin to Ivy Muritta Ryer on 25 Aug 1896 at Cook County, Chicago Illinois. This would fit with the stories handed down in the family. Cook County is on the West side of Chicago between Chicago and Aurora. The geography fits with the stories but that is all I have on the descendants in the States.
I have no precise death dates for Arthur Brown or Christiana Frances Brown (nee Corrin) but have the Andreas burial dates in 1917 and 1916. Otherwise where dates are given they are confirmed to records.
That covers the provenance of my own data

Moving on to other issues.
I could not find a marriage date forJohn Joughin 1716-1788 to his second wife ANN Joughin, other than that it had to be after 1750 when Joney Crenilt died.
You asked was I interested in the CLEATER ancestry; I have Mary Cleater’s christening 13 Nov 1722 Andreas, but nothing more. ANY FURTHER DETAIL WOULD BE VERY WELCOME.;
Mary Cleater’s husband was Charles Joughin, bap Dec 1701, married MC 13 Nov 1722 and buried 20-01-1779. I believe his parents were JOHN JOUGHAN and BAHEE LACE, but I have no confirmed details on them, merely guesswork. My hunch is that the father of the John Joughan who married Bahee Lace was Charles Joughin, whilst I think that Bahee Lace’s father was John Lace, but I have not been able to confirm any of that to my satisfaction, and all I have is bare names ANY DETAILS on this group would be welcome.
That is as far as I have got on ANN JOUGHIN’s parents and grand parents.

Moving on to John Joughin of Leodest (1716-1788). I believe his father also to be John Joughin, but have no further hard facts. Anything would be welcome.

As regards your question re the ancestry of Charles Joughin and the link for 20 Sept 2007,. I must be doing something wrong, as I got nowehere there although in most other look ups I have done fine.
I would like to say thanks for all the information, as it has helped confirm what I had unravelled and add additional bits, which is always welcome. I now have all my Manx ancestors plotted back to 1820 and in most cases back to about 1760 and a few to 1600. My furthest research line takes me back firmly to before 1000AD, and in a somewhat shadowy form to 345AD. What I find is that if I get bogged down on Joughins, that it is worth taking a break and attacking Christians or Corrins or Prestons, and then coming back at a late date. The Cowle and Christian families of Bride.(plus odd interlopers from Andreas) are a future target as I am back to ther 1700s in some places but only to 1829 in another case.
Thanks
Robert H
