Hi Sheila
John Herbert married Helen Rhall around 1916 in West Derby, Liverpool, their wedding certificate can be found free online if you want to have a look at it. In 1911 John would have been 15 so he may have come over to Liverpool but I can’t be sure. My Great-grandparents lived on Moss Lane Liverpool L21, they both died there. My mum has John’s birth certificate; he went back to the IOM to get it in June 1951, we found it and that is how we found out he was adopted.
Does Lucy May’s daughter know anything about John because we know he visited someone each time he went over. We thought it may have been Lucy May in Rushen, right by Rushen Abbey, close to the bridge that he was visiting, is that where she lived? They also remembered visiting someone who lived next to the airport, maybe in a pink house or next to one?
John’s sister, Bessie Kinvig, lived in Mill Street until she died around 1968; he went over for her funeral. Would it be possible that your family knew the Kinvigs? We would love to know more about Anne Kinvig but we can’t find anything.
Could you tell us a little more about Lucy May because she was the only member of the Clugstons that kept in touch with John and any other family members you know like Jane’s father John Clugston or Jane’s mother because we have absolutely no information on them? Does Lucy May’s daughter know of John or remember him visiting?
I’ve got a picture of John and his wife, Helen, if you want me to send it to you through E-mail?
Thanks for all the information you can give me.
Alexandra
