This new evidence of the same signature for the John Looney (md Mgt Hutchin) appearing in the marriage of William Looney to Mary Corkill 1776 might be quite significant.

I believe the William who married Mary Corkill is the one baptized 28 Apr 1754 Maughold s/o William Looney & Margaret Corkill who married 15 Jun 1735. He had an older brother John baptized 1 May 1738. Unfortunately the 1754 baptism of William does not provide the mother, so I can't be sure. However, the only other married William Looney around in Maughold 1754 had a wife Margery Looney born late 1704 (because she was underage in her father William's July 1718 will but became of age by the time it went to court in early 1719.) She's too old to have a son in 1754, so William defaults to the slightly younger couple.

Now, if all this holds together, this means that Sue's suggestion in the other thread is correct (ie, John Looney (md Hutchin) likely is one of the 28 Jan 1735/36 s/o Wm Looney & Margery Looney, or 1 May 1738 s/o Wm Looney & Margaret Corkill, the other one being the child buried 15 Sep 1741). Also, this means the 1735/36 John died early and the 1738 John is the John we've been searching for.

I sure hope I'm right, but it may need just a bit more evidence to be sure.
