been doing a little more research - looks as tho I found the wrong treen - the property was probably in Alkest (there were it seems just 2 4d rentals pre 1704 one in Aust + other in Alkest) - the 1703/4 composition has under Alkest (fo 15 page 10 in 1760 copy) Wm Carrett french for 8d double rent in the same quarter compd for in 1643 by Wm Carrett fine then was 12d Lives expd so to pay now; (I've still to see the 1643 composition book where the lives are given which may help identify family) in 1716 Lib assed in the 4th quarterland in Alkest treen one holder was Wm Carrett French 8d

I've tried to follow this back in Lib vas etc but so far not found when Wm acquired this croft (4d rent pre 1702) but in near future will have most Lezayre records on my CD I added a few more will summaries over weekend online - a Wm Carrett appears in 1702 and 1686 lib assed but without the 'french' distinguisher - it's an interesting tag I've not seen anywhere else (maybe he had been in France but somewhat too early for smuggling unless caught and a POW whilst in Navy, tho 'french' was also used in Manx as meaning strange or unusual - Canon Kermode in his book Annals of Kirk Christ Lezayre doesn't mention it
