I am finding it dificult to identify the parents of William Garrett who married Isable Faragher 12 Oct 1751 at Lez.The burial reg entry for Lez Aug 1756 has the word (Frangagh) which I think means French. He could possibly be one of the French" Calais" Garretts? His will, which is on Ian Radcliffes wills website, names his three sons Wm, John and Thomas, also his wife Isable (Fargher). He also names his sister Joney wife of Robert Calcott/ Calcoat and Thomas his brother. His first son Wm was illegitimate as he was born 5 Mar 1748 three years before his parents married. They married 12 Oct 1751. Their second son John was born 15 Mar 1752. He died in his minority 5 June 1758 of smallpox. I had thought his parents were John garrett and Elizabeth Cottier . They had a dau Joney bapt 3 Apr 1726 Lez but she would have been only eighteen at the time of the marriage of Joney Garrett and Robert Calcot/Calcoat 22 May 1744 at Maughold. Not sure of the age of consent but think it would have been twenty one. I have looked at the original parish records and there is nothing to say that Joney was under age at the time of her marriage . Also the marriage was the day after the death of Elizabeth Garrett als Cottier, 21 May 1744. There is a will for Elizabeth Garrett als Cottier. So I think John and Elizabeth most likely not the parents. Although William left a very young family there is nothing to indicate his age or if he had been married before although there are no other children mentioned in his will. Can anyone think of other possibilities that I have missed as I have hit a brick wall here.
