Great thread - I've read it several times! It appears that you and I are related, James - plus maybe others on this thread! Jane Teare & Jeremiah Murphy are my maternal GG Grandparents. I'm in Southern CA, but have visited their gravesite in Chico CA. (As a kid, I lived just a few miles away in Chico and of course wasn't aware at the time)

I just got Jane's death certificate from Siskiyou County in CA from 1926. (I also have Jeremiah's) The death certificate lists Jane as being born May 21, 1842 to a Philip Teare originally from Isle of Man, England. Interestingly, the mother is listed as "unknown", but also hailing from Isle of Man. This certainly jibes with the New Brunswick census of 1851 (and states his wife's name is Elanore).

I've looked into the marriage certificate from Nova Scotia for Jeremiah and Jane, but 1) LDS is having a categorization issue - I have to call Salt Lake when I have time, and 2) there may be no parents listed. Nova Scotia changed their reporting requirements in 1864. Jeremiah and Jane were married in 1863 (D'oh!). But, I'll try to get the original record. If not, it's down to church records.

My question: can anyone shed light on the lineage of Philip Teare (b. 1791 Isle of Man) and his wife Eleanor (b. 1793) as referenced in the NB 1851 census?
