It would be interesting to know whether the 'Richard' was some early researcher's error which was then passed on through copying other peoples' research, or whether 'Richard' actually appears in an official record.
Regarding possible grandchildren in the 1851 census of New Brunswick, Canada, women often had babies in their 40s, especially if they had already given birth to several, but at aged 55 it would be unusual, but not impossible.
I find the World Connect Project entry baffling: "Richard (or Phillip) Teare b Isle of Man, UK".
When they give no source or quotation marks it is impossible to know whether this was actually written in the register, or whether we are just being told that both names were used by him. - Or that the writer doesn't know which name was correct.
I agree with you that James needs to buy an official copy of the marriage entry as a first step, as well as checking the other sources you suggest.
