Hello Averil,
Yes, I found it, thanks. I first looked at some other IOM choices on their list (wrote those in previous message).
The family tree has John Corkill b.1 July 1770 marrying 1796 to Ann Teare in Jurby, and died 5 March 1805 Jurby (no age given at burial). Doesn't say whether the Jurby marriage recorded John Corkill as being from Maughold.
Frances has a summary of his will on Manx Notebook: 1805 A 57 CORKILL John dated 27 mar 1805;son john(lands called nettin);daus jean, nancy;wife ann exex.
There is a MI in Jurby for his widow but not for him, so no age given, and there were many John Corkills in several parishes at that time.
If the Ards John Corkill (son of John Corkill & Margaret Cashen) stayed in the IOM I would have expected him to stay on the family farm in Maughold, being the eldest son, so I think it is unlikely that the family tree is correct. - That's unless the marriage says JC from Maughold, but even then, there were several JCs of around the same age in Maughold.
In the court case his gt niece said he went to America.
I don't think he was the one who joined the navy and ended up in Cornwall, because the court was told that this JC left the IOM in 1792 and joined the navy at the age of 19. There would be no reason to say he was 19 if he was really 22.
What do you think?
Sue
