Hi Sylvia,
That was a serious question, knowing that you go to the MM - not being sarcastic!
I know very little about the land records, which are difficult to follow on LDS film (Averil is trying this at the moment). Several years ago I was told that the easiest one to read - both on LDS film, and at the MM - is the 1704 Composition Book 1643-1703 in the highly legible 1760 copy. In the Manx Museum the volumes are RC1 and RC2.
I finally discovered that on LDS film they are called "Transcript of Manor Rolls 1643-1700" [film no.0106649].
I was a bit confused over the figures, and whether "i" differed from "j", and Nigel Crowe sent these helpful examples:
The figures are as follows;
John Mollavory XV s (fifteen shillings)
Kath Caine & Mr. John Christian XViij s vi d (eighteen shillings & six pence)
Wm Connoly j L Xiij s vj d (one pound thirteen shillings and six pence)
John Clucas j L Viij s X d (one pound eight shillings & ten pence)
and so forth.
