Ha ha ha! Thank you Sue, the National Heritage information sheet seems just the ticket. Somehow I hadn't seen that before, and I'd often complained that the information sheets in the Museum library aren't as detailed and useful as those found at the old family records centre in London or at Kew. Nice to be proved wrong in this case! I will have to investigate if there are more like that. And find off-island access to the maps.
The Woods Atlas index would probably be more useful with the maps to hand too. I have seen that site before, but always felt I must be missing something. Possibly it's that I'm not sure if the names listed are the owners or the people working/living at the property or both - but then, if they own property in more than one parish...
One query about the National Heritage page - 'Proprietor', 'tenant' and 'owner' seem to be used synonymously, and meaning the person paying the Lord's Rent - is that right?
