Jean, I have only just seen your response of last October. I do not know hoe to contaact you direct and let you have my e-mail address.
I would like to thank you for the info. However, on my recent visit to the island I spent some time at the Records Offfice in Douglas and did find that information. Had I seen what you wrote it would have saved me a lot of effort.
Amazing you met my aunt Elsie who had the shoe shop in Port St Mary. However, it was not she who inherited that property it was, by coincidence, another Elsie Newton (with a middle name Maude) Both Elsie Newton's are mentioned in Margaret Curphey's will.
I am not sure if that Edward Newton line is part of mine. It could be just coincidence. Nothing now surprises me re 'coincidences' in family research. One has to be so careful.
Elsie Newton is buried with her brother (my father) in Rushen Church yard.
I am still trying to find the 'link' of my family with the Gicks of Cordeman near Ballasalla.
My g g g grandmother Isabella who married a Joseph Clarkson is from the I O M and my Aunty Elsie had left a note saying she was of the Gicks of Cordeman.
The problem is that the marriage was before certificates so I can find no record anywhere that would confirm her single name.
Thanks again for your posting. I would love to contact you direct but do not know how.
Hope you see this
Ray
