Many thanks for your efforts in trying to solve my problem. However, I feel this is not the one.
Here is what I have found recently. In the 1901 Census it gives a Margaret Curphey. At that time she is 35 and living as 'head' of household, but unmarried at 6 Rosemount Onchan. But she was born in Mallew abt., 1866
Tracing her back through the census - though I failed to find her in 1881, In 1871 when she was 5 she was living with her parents at Cordeman (?) This fits as I feel there is a relationship between this Miss Curphey and the Gicks of Cordeman who also were landowner farmers in this area of the Island.
From the teenage years this Margaret Curphey
is classified as a Milliner. In the 1901 census whenshe is at Rosemount, Onchan, she is classed as an employer I believe.
If anyone can accesst the IOM death records for the very end of the 40's to the very beginning of the 50's and look for any 'Miss' Curpheys of an age around 84, especially one called Magaret, that would point a strong finger.
It seems the company Manxonia Ltd of 49 Victoria Street, Douglas was wound up in 1950 but all records have been destroyed, so they say (shame on the Island).
I have found the government departments of the Island I have contacted, not very helpful in family research. Unlike the trend in most plsaces today. But that may be just my experience.
Thanks again for your kind help.
