Re: Re Miss Curphey

Yes, it is getting difficult to track.

And yes again, this is the one that so far fits the bill.

And the 'Gick' as a second name (unusual though it is) seems to fit. One wonders why they would use this as a Christian name - what tie is there?

I wonder if there is some marriage somewhere.

Both families were extensive farmers and landowners in Cordeman (wherever that is) I guess it is in the South and in or near Mallew.

One can see how easy it would be to have some intermarriage in this situation - two wealthy families in such a small community.

Do Gicks still live in that area, I wonder?

On my UK researches I have seen a note from a Latterday Saints researcher, that my father's
family (Newton) have a connection to the Gicks
of Cordeman.

And, my aunt Elsie (his sister) was the bookeeper for Miss Curphey and got the position because of some relationship.

Elsie Newton, my aunt, had a shoe shop in Port St Mary, I think on Bay view Road, until the 1980's. She lived at 'the Grenea' (cottages)
out on the Bay road towards Kentraugh.

She was also a 'Miss'. I am sure anyone of that vintage in Port St Mary area (and who wore shoes - smile ) would know her.
