Re: Re Miss Curphey, MANXONIA
In Response To: Re: Re Miss Curphey, MANXONIA ()

Thanks Mary M. However, the Margaret I believe it is so far had only one first name - Margaret. At least, that is how it appears in the censuses.

Why this particular one stands out is the employment description - Milliner, and her background from what appears wealthy Manx landowner/farmers who would no doubt have seen she git the education, and start.

Also, her birth district of Mallew fits in. She seemed more connected to the Port St Mary area. My father is buried in Rushen church yard
near Port St Mary.

My problem is that all my 'known' relatives on my father's side are no longer with us.

Thanks again. I will look into the background of the one you indicate to see if there are any clues.

I would never have believed it would be so difficult to trace ancestors in a small island.

While ther are a number of Curphey's it is still not a name like looking for a Jones in Wales.

Also this one owned a high class gown shop on the main street in Douglas.

When I see these researches carried out with the backing of the TV, it is amazing how records are produced for them - even in war ravaged countries of Europe from years before the war - and remote villages in Eastern Europe.

Yet, someone says the Manx Government dumped many records down a mine shaft.
And not even a bomb dropped on the Island in either war.

Thanks all for your help

How short sighted.
