Hello David. My friend has put together a short synopsis of the marriages of John Duff and a bit about who we believe he was. Thus: John Duff married Mary Anne Boyne 15 June 1869 and had daughters Maude Amy/Mary (1869-1874) Maria/Mary (1871) Edith Annie (1872) and Elizabeth (1873). Mary Anne died in July 1873. She was 23 years old and her death was possibly related to Elizabeth’s birth.
John Duff married Mary Anna Cullen on 16 Feb 1874 probably because he desperately needed a mother for his tiny daughters. He had two more daughters, Mary (1875) and Margaret ‘Maggie’ (1876). I can’t find a death for Mary Anna Cullen but she must have died before 1878 perhaps in childbirth.
John Duff married Margaret Campbell 20 July 1878. They lived at 12 Post Office Lane, Douglas. Margaret was born in Ireland circa 1860. They had four boys: John James (1879, married Mary Agnes Killeen, son Francis Joseph), William Robert (1880-1915, Killed in action @ Somme. No known grave), Henry (1883) and Edward who died aged 6 days old in 1886. I haven’t found a death for Margaret but John Duff was a widower by 1901.
John Duff married Annie Wilson July 1926, their son, Robert William Howard was born the following month.
John Duff died in July 1928. He was a hackney car proprietor (horse drawn taxis) and owned his own business. I’ll bet he left a will.
Annie Duff, (nee Wilson) wed Thomas P Collister 14 Nov 1928.
We are still trying to establish Annie's birth mother and who her father was . Thomas Wilson has not, as yet, been confirmed beyond doubt. Also if there are any siblings?
So far, so much has been discovered that we knew nothing about!!!
Thank you David, Jean C and Frances!!
Regards
Gillian
