Hi Carol,
I found one burial entry which may be of interest primarily because the district is Ashburton and the purchaser of the grave is RB Cain. This would appear to be his wife Annie Louisa, she was 31 when she died. She'd have been 19 in 1915 when they married, if she had 11 children it seems she had a child every year of their marriage.
Sue sent me details of RBC burial, unfortunately Whakatane District Council do not have a burial database online, but I can give them a call to establish if other Cain's are buried in the same grave It's interesting RBC traveled from the middle of the South Island to the middle of the North Island. Whakatane is pretty remote region and mostly inhabited by Maori, from what I have read land was cheap at that time. RB Cain would have resided in the Ashburton district at least until 1927, the time of Anna Louisa death. He would have been at least 40 when he moved to Whakatane. The route he would have taken by train and ferry would have been over 1000 km, assuming he had all 11 children with him it would not have been a pleasant journey
I searched the NZ BMD it has the following criteria, records exist for but not less than
Births that occurred at least 100 years ago
Stillbirths if registered at least 50 years ago.
Marriages that occurred at least 80 years ago.
Deaths that occurred at least 50 years ago or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago.
Regards
Frank
