Hi Sue,
Thanks for the information however it's not my family. My Great Grandfather Henry Miller worked as a coachman for a Hugh Montgomery the landed gentry at a place called Drumbeg in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. I was able to obtain a marriage certificate for my Great Grandparents, (1849) my Great Grandmothers name was Abigail Stewart. With surnames like this undoubtedly we originated in Scotland and were possibly part of the Plantation. I discovered my Great Grandparents grave in May this year through two death notices (1887 & 1892) in the Belfast Central Library Newspaper archives. Further to that I obtained photographs of two uncles who served in WW1, one killed, one wounded in the same archives. It appears when WW1 soldiers joined the forces photographs were taken, consequently they appeared in the Belfast Telegraph if they were killed or wounded. I'm uncertain if other countries done this but for families with war dead Kew may have photos. I don't have any other family here in New Zealand as I emigrated here in 1979 to escape the "Troubles" as I didn't want my children to grow up in that environment.
My grandmother was Anna Elizabeth Gilmore, daughter of James Gilmore and Louisa Hudson (Louisa married Henry Sayle after James died). James father was also James Gilmore, mother Anne Watterson, Louisa's mother was William Hudson and Margaret Bridson. Other descendants include John Hudson, Jane Saint, John Bridson, Catherine Sansbury, Henry Watterson, Elizabeth Fell, Thomas Fell, Margaret Stephenson. With these connections I feel pretty closely associated with the island although I've only visited there four times.
Regards
Frank
