I still don't know which James b abt 1853 is yours. JC found the family minus James in the 1891 census living in Santan and with him in 1901 living in Marown--his age given as 48 birthplace Patrick. I haven't found them in 1881 census yet.

The first child Elizabeth was b Malew, 2nd William Ambrose b Marown, rest b Santan

I see Margaret remarried James Bridson 29 May 1909 Douglas so James died somewhere between 1901-1909. Do you know if he died on IOM?

I've been looking at the various James Cain(e)s ch in the general time period & can eliminate some of them.
I'm beginning to wonder if he was ch John James and then called James.
Also wondering if he was ch German, Malew, Marown rather than Patrick.
