Hello, Penny. Sorry to keep you waiting. I have not visited this board for several months – until prodded by Sue.
I see that Sue has already made some of the points that I was going to make, about the double date, and the mother’s age, for instance.
Among my notes for Lezayre baptisms I have those four that you list, but I had not assigned them to any family. The IGI microfiche that I bought from the IoMFHS some years ago does not have the parents’ marriage. However, I searched on FamilySearch just now for John (without surname) marrying Ann Joughin, and came up with two entries, both for 1734 October 15. In one case the father’s name is Keaneh, and on the other it is Keaney. On looking through my 1972 marriage notes for Andreas I find 1734 Oct 15 John Keaneh & Ann J. The groom’s surname I wrote badly, and I suspect that it was written badly in the register, and that I could hardly make it out.
As for the identity of the bride, I agree that this would be the Anne baptised at Andreas in 1705/6. The only other baptism of an Ann(e) is the Ann baptised at next-door Bride 1707 Dec 12, daughter of William Joughin, Crosby. Crosby is a farm on the east coast of Bride parish. That particular Ann, daughter of William, was buried at Bride 1714 April 20 “in smallpox”.
Looking at the age of the bride, I was going to make the same point as Sue, that having a first child over 30 was unusual, but having your last child at 41 is about right for those days of carrying on until the babies stopped coming. The marriage date fits well with the baptism of the first child. I am quite satisfied that the Andreas Anne is the right mother, and am going to enter her marriage and four children onto my FTM file.
Sue has gone into these Joughins in great depth, so if you want wills, etc, I am sure she will oblige. I can go back another two generations (and so can Sue), and add a lot about the later generations of these Joughins. If you would like any of this from me I suggest you contact me, off board if you like. My e-mail address, modified in the usual way, is pjallen at btinternet dot com.
Now which one of these four is your ancestor? I would be interested in knowing your own descent, so if you would like to contact me, again off board if you prefer, that would be good.
Philip Allen
