I forgot to say for those that don't know that the Nunnery Estate is up from Douglas Harbour . A footpath leads along the bank of the river , a quick way for chuchgoers to walk to K Braddan church. The estate is
just across from Ballabrooie & although mainly parkland had several big farms & Douglas Head land gifted by Nunnery Taubmans to Douglas. A small but beautiful garden had many gardeners. In past decades.
The gardens were open one day a year in aid of Boy Scouts , if I remember rightly . I would be there early , even as a child , to marvel at the walled kitchen garden & glasshouses with peaches, grapes etc. You were
allowed to explore into the lovely Winter Garden / conservatory which had a staircase leading up to a reception room in the big house. The Gov. now owns the house & parkland{ farms sold off long ago} & the Tynwald
Day Garden parties are held there for thousands of guests. Our College/ "University" is based in the House now.
