Hi Averil
I think that this is the John Caine/Edith Cowle couple in 1891 (from the 1888 marriage info):
1891
Lancashire, Everton, North Everton, district 12, image 33
56 Melbourne Street
John Caine head mar 27 mariner b Liverpool
Edith wife 22 b Dog Mills, Ramsey, IOM
Anne dau 10 months b Liverpool
*******************************************
same family in 1901:
Lancashire, Everton, North Everton 21/5
37 Melbourne St
John Caine head mar 37 dock gateman b Liverpool
Edith wife 32 b IOM
Annie M dau 10 b LP
Jessie Pacific dau 1 b LP
Ann Cain mother wid 73 b IOM
****************************************
John Caine's parents in 1891 ?
Lancashire, Everton, North Everton 22/14
12 Norgate St
William Caine head mar 63 mariner b Kk Michael IOM
Annie wife 63 b Castletown IOM
Maria Waterson cousin unm 62 b CT
Frances C Waterson cousin unm 56 b CT
******************************************
I think that the 1888 marriage details:
"April 23rd 1888 John Caine 24 Bachelor - Mariner - 68 Melbourne Street - (Father's Name) William Caine - Mariner
Edith Cowle 19 Spinster - 68 Melbourne Street - (Father's Name) Thomas Cowle - Carter
Witnesses : Elizabeth Cowle & Frederick Edward Bisham Turner"
......... match the family above, but are not the same family as the 1911 details below:
1911 Census,
John Cain Head 45 married 22 years born, Union Mills, Isle of Man
Edith Annie Cain Wife 42 born, Glen Rushen, Isle of Man
Lydia Cain Daughter 21 born, Douglas, Isle of Man
Robert Henry Cain Son 17 born, Douglas, Isle of Man
************************************
Since the Liverpool couple don't have a son called Robert Henry (unless he was away from home on census night) this rules out the 1888 West Derby marriage .
