Hello Greg,
In Jan I wrote "Two possible Robert Corkills b.c.1820 were bapt in Maughold: 29 Aug 1819 (son of Robert Corkill & Esther Looney), and 11 June 1820 (son of Peter Corkill & Elinor Clague)".
Later that month there were more messages in a different thread: http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/interests/genealogy/bulletin/index.pl?noframes;read=512392 which gave the probable date of birth of Robert Corkill husband of Esther as 1794 (from the M.I.).
[Maughold MI] #227 Sacred to the memory of ESTHER CORKILL alias LOONEY wife of ROBERT CORKILL who departed this life the 25th of Feby 1848, Aged 67 years, Also the above ROBERT CORKILL who died March 17th 1885 aged 91 years.
This M.I. transcript looks wrong. Robert's burial is not in the Maughold parish register for this date, and it would make him married at the age of 11 (married Esther Looney in Maughold on 28 Jan 1806).
Esther's date and age on the M.I. are the same as in the burial register. (Bapt 16 Apr 1781.)
Robert Corkill & Esther Looney had 11 children between 1805 and 1827, with Robert CORKILL bapt 29 Aug 1819 in the middle.
The 1851 census might help with an age for Robert Corkill the widower of Esther Looney, and also with Robert bapt 11 June 1820, son of Peter Corkill & Elinor Clague, to work out which Robert married Cath Quayle.
Where were Robert and Esther (aged 60) in the 1841 census?
Sue
