I was off the board for a bit and first saw this thread yesterday. I have to admit I've been very confused with Kermode, Kermod, Kermot, Kermott so am very glad to see these notes, particularly Wayne's research. Best wishes and kudos to you. I've been able to clean up some of the mess I had with these families, thanks to both Wayne & Lois.
I have James Kermode & Joney Clague marrying 17 Nov 1718 Lonan, with the following children, plus an unknown female bp May 1722. Placename for both 1722 baptisms was "Lhagdhoo" Lonan.
1. Daniel 17 Aug 1719. He first married Ann Skillicorn 24 Feb 1749 with 2 children per her 1755 will, James & Jane. Then it seem likely he's the one who married Catharine Clague 1 Aug 1756 Lonan, with 6 children from 1757 to 1772: Catharine, Daniel, William, Ellinor, Mary & Isabel. I've put the 15 Jun 1801 burial to him, and his will mentions daughters Mary & Isabel, a son in law named Thos Webster and wife Catherine Kermod exec'x. I don't know who Thos Webster is; maybe a daughter married a mainland person. It's odd that other children aren't mentioned; perhaps already taken care of (he's over 80 by now). Wife Catharine may match 24 Apr 1810 Lonan burial with matching will (not seen). BTW Ann Clague als Kinnish's Lonan Archd will 1759 mentions "Step-dau Daniel Kermode's wife".
2. Jane 16 Sep 1722. She married a widower Patrick Killip (with dau Isabel by first wife Mary Christian d/o Thos Christian & Isabel Skillicorn) 16 Oct 1742 Lonan. They had 9 children 1744-67: Jane, Margaret (my 4xg-grandmother), Patrick, Ellinor, Mary, Anne, John, Patrick, William. Jane buried 22 Feb 1790 and Patrick 15 Feb 1799.
3. James Jul 1724. Married Jane Quark (d/o John Quark & Jane Christian) 13 Jun 1749 Lonan. Children mentioned in James' 1769 will: Mar- (Mary or Margaret?), Thomas, Joney, James, William. Joney's husband Thomas Skillicorn. Jane Quark had a daughter Jane 1747 by Philip Hogg, before she married James K.
4. Mary 19 Apr 1730. Likely died early.
5. William 28 Sep 1731. Married Margaret Skillicorn 11 Dec 1756 Lonan. Children: William (1757-1833, md Ann Quine), John 1760, Catharine 1766. William bd 31 Oct 1799 and Margaret 15 Aug 1797, both with wills (see Manx Notebook).
6. John 10 Jan 1734/35. Not researched. He is mentioned as "bro John" in William's 1799 will.
7. Philip 11 Dec 1737. Married Alice Corjeen 12 Apr 1760. Haven't researched them.
8. Mary 6 Dec 1741. Not researched.
Regarding Daniel Kermode 14 Oct 1759, s/o DK & Cath Clague.
He married Margaret Quark 5 Dec 1786. Children William, Margaret, Daniel, John, Ann, Jane, Isabella. I have him matching to the burial 28 Dec 1825 Lonan with will not yet seen. The 1816 will for a Margaret Kermode that Wayne summarized in his note doesn't match this list of children at all.
Son Daniel bp 9 Dec 1792 married Margaret Killip 19 Aug 1823, who's father was John Killip in the list of children of Patrick & Jane in #2 above.
There is a burial of a Daniel Kermod 14 May 1765 Lonan with no associated will. I wonder who that might be? Could be a child.
Going backwards from James Kermode, he was son of Daniel Kermod who died 1724 with a will that only mentions a daughter Cath as exec'x. Wife of Dan'l was Ann Fargher who died 1699 (will not seen). William Kermod who died 1722 is also the son of Daniel but he predeceased him. This is Lois's ancestor and a marriage contract of him to Catharine Quay 1707 confirms the connection of Dan'l.
The will of Cathrine Kermott 1740 mentions Cath Cowin als Quay, Jane Skillicorn, Joney Skillicorn, William Kermott her brother's son, and her brother James Kermott. Cath Cowin als Quay is her brother William's widow; she married Nicholas Cowin after Wm died. If you put all these pieces together, they work!
I have a note that there's a Kermod website that takes this family further back though a couple of Williams. I think this note is long enough already so I won't pursue that right now.
