Hello MaryM,
I've been reading the thread regarding Cecil Christian and was very interested when you mentioned Eveline. My mum remembers Aunty Eveline when she was a young girl, I've pasted the notes I made regarding Eveline, Lottie and Ruby, which I'd sent to Reg in Australia below. Does any of it make sence to you, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Christians:
Eveline (Williams daughter) – According to mum married a guy called Clarke (I can verify with a local website his name was Philip William Clarkes and the marriage was on 25th Jan 1899) I don’t have certificated proof though. Mum says he died, and at some stage later she married his brother. She had a son called William Clarkes, probably by the first brother but not sure.
Lottie (Eveline’s sister) – She married a guy by the name of Dow (as it says in the census) and had a daughter Audrey.
Ruby (Eveline’s sister) - She married a guy by the name of Meldrum and they had a daughter called Shirley. When Ruby died, some years later her husband Mr Meldrum married Ruby’s cousin Dot whom is listed below.
Mum thinks Lottie and Ruby live in Lancashire and that Eveline may also have lived there. They certainly lived away from the island when mum was young.
Reuben & Dot – they were cousins to the 3 above and also cousins to mum’s mum Elizabeth Agnes Kennish nee Christian. Their surname we don’t know so they could be offspring from any of the brothers and sisters baring Andrew, William and probably your Evan, as a think we know their children. Mum thinks both Reuben & Dot lived in Yorkshire and she remembers Reuben visiting the island with a woman called Agnes whom was either his wife or sister (Agnes is a name coming right through the Christian dynasty so could be sister, but then again it was a common name at the time). Agnes’s birthday was the 11th September, the day after mum’s, but we don’t know what year.
Best wishes,
PeterM
