I decided to look at all the Teare births in the Manchester area in the 1850s and 1860s, and then the Teer births. There were 2 Teare families having children in Chorlton, one of them with a William b 1860, and that was the John Teare/ Isabella Taggart family. Then in Manchester there was a Teer family with a William b 1859 and several siblings.

I looked at your William and Lilian in 1891 and 1901 and saw that in 1891, William was a 29 yr old "job merchant" ? b Manchester, and in 1901 he was a 40 yr old joiner b Manchester.

I found in the 1881 census a William Tear, 21, joiner, b Manchester, with mother (mar, not widow) Elizabeth age 39, dyer ?, and siblings Jane 19, Frank 17, John 16, Alice A 12, Mary E 9, Joseph 7, James S 8 months, all b Manchester.

They were hard to find in 1871, indexed as Leer.

These are the births of the first 3 children. I haven't found a marriage of a Thomas or a Joseph Thomas Teer to an Elizabeth circa 1857 in Manchester.

The William Teare b 1860, son of John Teare and Isabella Taggart, was in the IOM with Teare relatives (father's married sister ?) in 1881, and he was a plumber.

It's looking increasingly likely that the "joiner" occupation of your William Teer in 1901 links him to the William Teer b 1859, son of Joseph Thomas Teer and Elizabeth.
