Hi Jackie
I've had a go at looking for that elusive marriage for William Teare/Teer and Lilian Taylor/Elizabeth Ann Schofield Taylor. You'd expect it to be in the Manchester area circa 1889, wouldn't you, since the first child was 1 month old in April 1891 (unless there had been a birth of an earlier child who had died before the 1891 census.)
Have you come across this marriage before ?

Is it just a coincidence that 2 people with the same name combination were married in the same general area, but 25 years later ?
Or could this be the scenario ---- William married in his early twenties and the marriage failed. William then set up home with Lilian and they lived as man and wife, had their family, and eventually William's wife died, leaving him free to marry Lilian.
Have you sent for this certificate ?
Until you've got definite proof that your William is the one whose father was John Teare, you can't go back to an earlier generation with confidence.
