Hi Col,
Can you point to the clues you refer to please?
One of the many tattoos on Thomas [recorded before photography for identification] read “BROTHER JAMES LYNCHEY 1835”; this is what has me surmise that this was the young male who accompanied Sarah.
I have found in my research that Lynch and Lynchey, in all their spellings, were interchangeable. For instance in one record that I have found in Australia regarding Sarah her name is given as Lynch and her transport was named as the Mary III [in referring to convicts the administration always referred to the as “..per a certain ship..”] I checked the full indent and there was no Lynch on that voyage. I have been told by an Irish researcher that Lynchey has morphed into Lynch in Ireland. The last time that I looked there was no Lynchey, or similar, listed in the White pages for either part of Ireland or for the IoM.
I have been looking at the IoM census and for whatever reason Jeffery Lynch(ey) his wife and daughter do not feature, they may have gone back to Ireland or on to England.
Cheers
Peter
