Manx orthography was phonetic - the parish clerk(baptismal reg) or enumerator(early censuses) would have filled in the form - the name could be rendered as stephenson, stevenson - the 'son' could well be dropped (esp by those more familiar with Manx) and the name rendered steven/stephan(s) or in earlier Manx speakeres Steane.
The old Jurby school house still stands (or did but not checked recently) across a field from the parish church - there was a new school built in 20th C (the latest school was built 1982) but first school is mentioned in a deed North Side Sales Oct 1766 #40

In 1831 had about 20 pupils (see IoM Charities on manx note book)- some history is mentioned in Hinton Bird "An Island that led " vol 2 - after the 1872 act all parochial schools were to be transferred to the new local education committeesbut Jubry was first closed by appointment of a new master then by the Vicar orver rights of access - finally a transfer happened in 1879 (the newspapers have more detail)
